Bella, a 10-year-old Staffie, had a large soft tissue sarcoma over her lateral left elbow she had been referred to us at West Midlands Referrals by a local vet. Excision with margins wasn’t feasible. Amputating her leg was a huge step to take for a mass that was unlikely to ever spread beyond the leg.
So we palliatively excised the mass locally, with no curative intent, and the remaining open wound healed naturally over the next 4-5 weeks. Regrowth is inevitable, but many dogs with these masses often actually die of unrelated causes, ie something else, not because of the tumour.
