    Bella, a 10-year-old Staffie, had a large soft tissue sarcoma over her lateral left elbow she had been referred to us at West Midlands Referrals by a local vet. Excision with margins wasn’t feasible. Amputating her leg was a huge step to take for a mass that was unlikely to ever spread beyond the leg.

  • “Screw tail” in a Bull dog

    A 3-year-old Bulldog presented to us in West Midlands Referrals for attention to her breed-related “screw tail”.  The deep skin folds associated with the cork-screw tail led to festering skin infections.

    A 7-year-old female Labrador presented to us at West Midlands Referrals with a large soft tissue mass, a leiomyosarcoma (a malignant tumour of smooth muscle cells), in the perineum (the area between the vagina and the anus).

    A 12-year female Border Collie presented at West Midlands Referrals with a massive (>2kg) soft tissue mass over the right rump. This was believed to be a soft tissue sarcoma that had grown over a few years. It was removed with reductive intent rather than curative intent.

    A 45 kg, 10-year-old crossbred dog presented to us at West Midlands Referrals for CT chest/neck and surgical removal of a well-defined mass between the left carotid artery and the trachea. Our colleague Mayra had recently scanned him.
