After working in HR for 14 years, at the age of 39, Kate felt like she needed a change of direction and decided to explore her childhood dream of working as a veterinary nurse. Although some people might have thought she was mad for making such a dramatic change, Kate feels like it was the best thing she ever did!

Kate started by getting some work experience at the PDSA in Stoke-on-Trent, before completing her Level 2 Veterinary Care Assistant Diploma (with distinction!) and then went on to train for her Veterinary Nurse Diploma. She completed her training in March 2021, aged 43. Kate would say to anyone at a bit of a crossroads in life and considering veterinary nursing; go for it! You are never too old and you’d be surprised at how many relevant skills you already have!
