At West Midlands Veterinary Referrals, our most treated joint conditions include:
- Angular limb deformity: Twisted limbs, typically the “forearms”, are not unusual problems in growing dogs. If these aren’t properly and promptly addressed, this can lead to significant complications for future joint function.
- Arthrodesis: Fusing diseased joints is sometimes the only option to restore pain-free mobility. We are experienced in fusing wrists, ankles, shoulders, and, on occasion, knees and elbows.
- Arthroscopy: Using an arthroscope to show a magnified view of joints, typically the elbow and shoulder, on a television screen.
- Complex fracture repair: We have a vast experience of fixing fractures and an excellent record of success.
- Cruciate ligament rupture: This knee ligament rupture is very common, and we’ve done hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of them, using a variety of techniques, some of them ultra-modern.
- Joint replacement: Hip replacements for medium or large dogs and elbow replacements.
- OCD Surgery: Problems with the joint cartilage in shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles are relatively common and can require surgery to save or to salvage the joint.
- Patellar luxation: Dislocating kneecaps are common in many breeds of dog, and are usually straightforward to sort out.
- Hip dysplasia
- Elbow dysplasia
- Patella luxation
We also see many patients who have suffered trauma and as a result, have fractured bones or have limb deformities that benefit from surgical correction.
Orthopaedics is the branch of medicine that deals with the correction and or prevention of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system, associated muscles, joints, and ligaments. Our team also offer regenerative medicine for pets with osteoarthritis or soft tissue injuries
Our surgical suite at Burton on Trent was purpose-built and has four operating theatres, six consulting room, two radiography rooms and CT facilities.
Our dog kennels can house 15 patients and our separate cattery can house up to 10 cats.
