• Ulna fracture in a cat

This right articular proximal ulna fracture occurred outside of the house in unknown circumstances about a week before the presentation.

It was reduced and fixed with a pin and tension wire and healed uneventfully. Sometimes we need to remove the implants in these cases after the fracture has healed.

This fracture was similar but “comminuted” meaning that the bits didn’t fit back together properly. One fragment, pictured, had lost its blood supply and was removed rather than leave in in situ to potentially cause problems as a “sequestrum”.

This young cat was shot by some sad-act with an air-rifle. It was fixed with a pin and wire, once we’d fished the pellet out, along with hair that had been dragged in by the pellet. After prolonged antibiotics as a precaution, the functional outcome was good.
