A 12y female cat presented to us ar West Midlands Veterinary Referrals with a 3-week-old tarsometatarsal fracture luxation.
There was gross malalignment, and the fifth metatarsal head was exposed and desiccated.
We aligned the limb. We couldn’t get all of the small bones back in place, and part of the tarsus was “overlapped”, but at least the leg was straight, and we reasoned that it would be much more functional this way.
Stabilisation involved the placement of type 2 external fixator. This stayed on for 3.5 months before removal.
