When there isn’t enough skin left to close a wound and skin flaps can’t be created, skin stretchers can sometimes help.
Here these skin stretchers are improvised using velcro, tissue glue and pieces of elastic. In this dog, cancer had been operated on elsewhere, and it was impossible to remove the cancer completely. We removed as much of the cancer regrowth as possible but didn’t dare create skin flaps for fear of spreading cancer – and the future inevitable regrowth – further along, the body wall than it was already.
